Hadeel Al-Shalchi

Hadeel Al-Shalchi is a reporter, associate producer and news editor/on-air reader at CBC Radio is Ottawa. She holds the distinction of being the first visibly Muslim woman to report for CBC Television. Hadeel was introduced to radio through volunteering for Carleton University’s radio station, CKCU, and hosting an online show on the Islamic Broadcasting Network. Hadeel has also worked as a communications officer for a public advocacy group. She holds a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Ottawa.

Hadeel was born in Kuwait and is of Iraqi and Welsh background. She was raised in Abu Dhabi, UAE before immigrating to Canada with her family in 1994. When Hadeel isn’t working, she is active in her community in Ottawa, volunteering with youth, leadership, and interfaith/intercultural outreach. She is fluent in English and Arabic, and has a good working knowledge of French.
